CEE163. Biological Treatment Process Design

Design of biological treatment processes. Topics include attached and suspended growth, aeration, anaerobic systems, process control and economics. Design projects included. Prerequisite: CEE161. (Design units: 4) Chemical Engineering, Civil Engineering, and Environmental Engineering majors have first consideration for enrollment.


CEE263. Advanced Biological Processes

Fundamentals of bacterial reactors for water and wastewater. Dynamics and control of aerobic, anoxic, and anaerobic processes. Topics include activated sludge processes, biological nutrient removal, biomass digestion.

CEE264. Carbon Footprint Analysis for Water and Wastewater Systems

Mass- and energy- flux balance analysis applied to water and wastewater systems. Case studies include analysis and design of aeration, membrane separations, disinfection, water supply, and water reclamation processes.

CEE265. Advanced Physical-Chemical Treatment Processes

Analysis of natural chemical processes in the aquatic environment. Modeling of physical- chemical treatment systems. Analysis of chemical processes which affect the fate of contaminants in the natural environment. Computer modeling of several systems included.
